Providing Expert Tutoring, Identification, and Parent Support Since 2007.
My name is Sommer Holt, and I live in the beautiful Pacific Northwest in Washington State. As a mother of three children with varying degrees of dyslexia, I intimately understand the challenges dyslexia presents. My journey began with my own daughter’s struggle with reading and spelling, which revealed a troubling lack of support and understanding for dyslexia in education. Determined to help her succeed, I became trained in the Barton Reading and Spelling System, a research-based program for dyslexia intervention. After successfully homeschooling and tutoring her for three years, I deepened my expertise, earning certification at the Master's level. Since founding Skagit Valley Dyslexia Solutions in 2007, I have tutored dozens of students, mentored other tutors, and take great honor in working directly with Susan Barton to facilitate Barton Certifications.
I believe that every child deserves the opportunity to reach their full potential, and dyslexia should never stand in the way of their success. My approach is rooted in compassion, individualized support, and evidence-based practices. I strive to create a learning environment that builds confidence and unlocks a child’s ability to thrive academically and personally. Whether working one-on-one with students or mentoring other tutors, my goal is to empower children and young adults to overcome the challenges of dyslexia and embrace their strengths.
