Skagit Valley Dyslexia Solutions

Skagit Valley Dyslexia Solutions is committed to provide research-based diagnostic testing and tutoring for children and young adults who are struggling with reading and spelling.  Sommer Holt began Skagit Valley Dyslexia Solutions after her own daughter's struggle with reading and spelling and the frustration in realizing the lack of help and understanding with dyslexia in the educational field. Sommer became trained in a scientifically researched based teaching method for dyslexia and successfully tutored her own daughter as a home-schooler for 3 years. Upon her daughter's success, Sommer furthered her expertise and became a Certified Dyslexia Diagnostician so that she may reach other children and young adults who are struggling with their reading and spelling.

Sommer is currently 1 of 6 Certified Dyslexia Testing Specialists in Washington State and the only certified tester in Skagit County. Because Sommer has experienced first hand the helplessness and frustration that a parent often feels when their child is academically struggling, Sommer is dedicated to equip parents with the latest research so they too may be a strong and effective advocate for their child.

Sommer Holt uses the latest research-based diagnostic assessments recommended by Yale University's Dr. Sally Shaywitz, and is also a trained tutor using the Barton Reading and Spelling System: an Orton-Gillingham based multi-sensory reading program specifically designed for the remediation of dyslexia.

Sommer has earned her title by completing a graduate level program titled, Diagnosing Dyslexia, through the University of San Diego.  The course was taught by internationally recognized and leading authority in dyslexia and AD/HD, Susan Barton.
